To My Good Trek Family Children, where ever you are today!
Daughters: Hope, Faith, Charity, Grace, Mercy, Harmony and Felicity
and Sons: Lehi, Ammon, Mormon, Mosiah and Nephi
Yesterday Ma and I attended the 2019 1st of July Canada Day parade in Raymond with many of our daughters and most of our crop of 18 grandchildren plus the 2 great-grand's. We are blessed to have them all in one place this summer, with the far-away-er's coming to visit (from Italy and Edmonton) for a return to their roots here in Magrath. You may notice a bit of a time distortion coming up - time flies by even faster the older you get. When I was a child I recall the summer months we spent visiting Magrath seeming to last forever with days filled with swimming at the pool, swim lessons, playing at Grandma/Grandpa's house and all around town, reading books (the 10 cent charge for the library card was a bargain even though the entire town library back then fit in a single small room at the old Civic Center building and consisted mostly of Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy books). No internet or social media back then either. The (Lethbridge) newspaper in Magrath was one tenth the size of the Calgary paper, but at least the comics page remained and the Saturday version was in color! With only 2 working over the air TV stations, we didn't often have much to distract us there. We would even venture to swim in the old creek by the fish pond and build forts in the trees down there from time to time. Good times!
More recently, I have found I really enjoy renovating and rebuilding houses - as a hobby mostly, since few wish to pay me to do it so slowly, but I have so much fun doing it. Last year with our old home, I renovated it as a rental for my Kentucky daughter to move back home to with an new 1000 sq ft upstairs loft and new half bath upstairs. Earlier this year, my mother's basement was prepared for new renters with a sliding barn door to close off the stairs and many much needed repairs and upgrades - a fan above the stove, new countertops in laundry and such, updated ceiling treatments and fresh paint all around. And more recently here at my own home surprised Ma with an extended kitchen/pantry upstairs and the creation of 2 functional bedrooms out of the long playroom in the basement (for all the grandchildren/visitors) with secret 'Fairy Doors' in the adjoining closets. My process seems to be sitting and staring at the space for a long while, until I can decide what needs to be done with it and then just do what I have dreamed up. Ma doesn't like that process much but has been happy with the end results so far. I submit this process to you. Look at your life and current situations, take some time to ponder what is possible, and then just go out and make it so .. (more Star Trek humor, with you as Number One).
We trust you are happy in your own journeys so far. We see that Hope has added a beautiful bit of Ivy to her family home with her own recent addition/renovation. We often see Lehi working here in Magrath and others when they pop in to the Pharmacy to see us from time to time. We listen for news of you from your friends and family as well as giving in to trolling the internet from time to time to see what you are up to out there. Live well and prosper! Life is hard (like trek). Bad things can happen to good people and sometimes otherwise good people need to repent of bad choices. We know that 'wickedness never was happiness', but righteous choices do not guarantee a life without tests and trials, without illness and eventual death. My advise? Take some time to ponder what is possible, and then just go out and make it so ..
Love to all from Ma and Pa Davies
